Dress shops on the Crystal Coast didn't exist when I was
growing up on the farm in Stella! There was no Emerald
Isle Bridge and very few businesses in this area. If you needed a zippy casual outfit to wear to a special event, you shopped at a small boutique in New Bern or Jacksonville. These shops were like the Cheers sit-com, "Everybody knows your name....even if you lived in Stella! The owner was always in the store and knew her inventory well. All you had to do was describe the event and what you would like to wear and she'd pull it off the rack. It was like having a personal shopper!
Shopping on the coast is different today because we have many stores and shops. One of the newest shops in Cape Carteret is Dee-J's. Dee-J's, owned and operated by Donna Key and her sister Jennifer Baker, sells fashionable clothes at a reasonable price. This delightful business opened in Swansboro in 2002 and moved to Carteret Crossing Shopping Center in the fall of 2006. Browse through the fine selection of items at Dee-J's, then treat your self to a pedicure or manicure at Beautiful Nails before stopping at Lowe's Grocery Store for the fixings of a great meal cooked the the Country Retreat.
They sell accessories and costume jewelry that' s distinctive and colorful yet at sensible prices. Be sure to check out the front of the shop for their newest arrivals beautifully displayed with coordinating accessories.

If you would like to be on their call list, give them your name and phone number when you are in the store. Donna or Jennifer will call you when clothes come in that they think you will like. Can't get any better service than that!!
